Baking up some Disney fun!

I hope you have been enjoying the week long celebration of Disney, which was the idea of Janis at Pause Dream Enjoy.

This is not a hop . . . it is just a group of crafters that have all promised to ONLY post Disney related projects on their site this week.  Some people might post a new project every day, others may only get a few projects out all week, but they will all be Disney (or some other animated character)

While my daughter was home for Spring Break we wanted to do some fun projects together.  One of them I featured on Sunday . . . making Easter eggs with a little help from some vinyl and my Cricut.  Well, we also love baking and my daughter's favorite Disney character is Donald Duck.  I have a set of Disney cookie cutters and we decided to put the Donald Duck one to use.

First we cut out the cookie shapes.

Now, I normally cover my sugar cookies with frosting, but we did not want all of that frosting to cover up the cute Donald Duck faces . . . and I did not want to sit and try and "paint in" all of the different areas with different colored frosting . . . that would take a long time and a steady hand.  So we decided to try some colored sugar.

I put some sugar into disposable cups, and then added a few drops of food coloring and stirred it around.  Then we put heaping spoonfuls of the sugar on the cookies . . . blue where Donald's hat is, yellow on his bill and white in the middle for the main part of his face.
Then we used our fingers to push the sugar into the lines of the Donald Duck image.  We did not worry too much about staying inside the lines . . . we thought it kind of looked like a young child's coloring book, where they get the right colors in the right areas, but the color does not always stay inside the lines.
Once we baked them they looked like this . . .
Here is a close up . . .

I think they turned out cute . . . and they taste good too!

If you had fun checking out my project, make sure to see what all of the other crafters have created by clicking on their names below . . . it will take you right to their blog.  Also, mark your calendar because I will be co-hosting a Disney Pixar Blog Hop May 19th and 20th.  If you want a reminder, you can go to the Facebook page HERE.
