FCCB - Thank You for Featuring Me!

I was so happy to be asked to be a Featured Designer on the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog!  I want to thank everyone over at FCCB for this amazing week.  I hope you had as much fun as I did!

Today I wanted to share a fun shaped card that I created using some of my FAVORITE products!  I just got a new corrugated paper stack from DCWV and I knew I wanted to use that for a fun project.

The ridges in the paper reminded me of the wrapper on a cupcake, so I decided to make a cupcake shaped card.

I knew that the Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge has several cupcake shaped cards on it.  If you don't own this cartridge you could go to MyCutSearch.com and enter the search term

into the search bar to see the other cartridges that might have a similar image.  I kind of "combined" two of the cupcakes I found.  I liked the basic shape of the cupcake in the image below, but I wanted to do a heart on the top instead of the cherry.

I placed the corrugated paper down on my Cricut cutting mat with the ridges face down, so I was cutting through the back side of the paper.  I used my deep cut blade on a depth of 6 with a multi cut of 4, with the speed and pressure at 2.

The cut was not as clean as I wanted it to be . . . but of course I am not sure if this type of paper was even MEANT to be cut on a die cutting machine.  

I got out my Westcott scissors, trimmed the edges, did a little sanding to clean up the rough spots and then added ink to the edges . . .in the end I think it cleaned up the rough edges nicely.

Now on to the cupcake.  I used the a fun polka dot from the DCWV Citrus Stack.  

Once I cut the base cupcake shape I hand cut it to separate the cupcake top from the base of the cupcake.

Why did I do that?  

Well, for this project I was going to be layering the corrugated paper over the bottom half of this cut anyway, so I figured if I cut it I could save the bottom to use for a different project.  You will have to come back another day to see what I did with that!

Now it was time for my FAVORITE PART . . . the embellishment!  I wanted a bright heart for the top of the cupcake, so I grabbed my orange rhinestone sticker sheets from The Buckle Boutique and loaded it into my Cricut to cut the heart for the top.  Yes, you heard me right . . . rhinestones you can cut with your Cricut!  For a FULL tutorial on that, and a video that shows me cutting them with my Cricut, you can go HERE.

So now you can see the hearts I cut.  I did a few extra as long as I was cutting them . . . then I have them ready for other projects.

I wanted to take a few photos to show you how the shapes cut right out of the rhinestone sticker sheets cutting THROUGH the "gems".  That is because these "stones" are actually a soft gel material so they can be cut with scissors, a craft knife or your die cutting machine.  Complete cutting directions for the rhinestone sticker sheets, along with a video can be found HERE.

For this photo I had the help of my lovely assistant, my daughter Beth.  We wanted to show you that once you cut a shape with the rhinestone sticker sheets, you just peel off the backing and the entire back side of your cut shape already has an adhesive back!  Just peel and stick!

I layered all of my cuts together over a light gray-blue card shape, and then wrapped some ribbon from 3 Girl Jam around the base of the cupcake.  This also help to hide one spot where the corrugated paper did not cut as clean . . . again . . . not the paper's fault, I think that it was not really meant to be die cut and my blade might have been dull.  I think the NEXT time I do this I will just do a single LIGHT cut on the back of the corrugated paper with my Cricut to create the outline of the shape, and then go around and cut it all the way through with scissors.
