Chalkboard Paper and Sparkle

Have you ever tried working with Chalkboard paper?  I have a chalkboard paper stack from DCWV

There are some great patterns in this stack but there are also some pages that have just a boarder or a few accents on them, and then MOST of the page is blank so that you can write on the chalkboard portion of the paper.

When I think of chalkboards, the first thing I think of is school.  I have a sister who is a teacher, and when I saw the page from this stack with the tree and flowers that are drawn in a very simplistic, almost child like style, it made me think of projects you might see in a classroom this spring.

I went to the local craft store and they had frames on sale . . . buy one get one free!  I found 2 frames that were 12" x 12" so I could use one for this project and save one for another project.  I removed the glass since I wanted my sister to be able to write on the chalkboard portion of this project.

And of course, since I love my sparkle, I had to add a little bit to the sunshine.  This was really easy to do.  I just cut a scrap piece of my rhinestone sticker sheets from The Buckle Boutique with my scissors to the size of the inside of the sun.  If you wanted to you could cut the shape on scrap paper first to get the size and shape right.

There is already adhesive on the back, I just peeled off the backing and placed int inside the sunshine.

Then I "prepped" the chalkboard.  I had read online that when you do projects with chalkboard paint you need to prep the surface, so I was guessing that chalkboard paper would work the same way.  To prep it, you just take a piece of chalk and rub it all over the surface, then wipe it off.  I guess this helps the chalk stick to the surface better . . . it seems kind of strange to do, but I am sure there is a reason that it helps.  Hey, it is on the internet, so it must be true, right.

Then I wrote a simple message on the chalkboard for the photo.  My sister can hang this in her classroom and easily change it out with messages or reminders for the children.
