Giving new life to an old bulletin board

I wanted to add a bulletin board to my craft room so I could pin project ideas and inspiration to it, and I found this old bulletin board in our storage room.

Pretty boring, right?  I decided to paint the wood black.  

First I taped off the cork because I KNOW I am a messy painter!  

Then I went over the black with a iridescent paint to add a shimmer to it.  

It does not show up very well in the photos, but in real life it has a really glossy finish and the black looks like a fresh wet paint even when it dried.

And here is how it looks in my craft room!
