Last minute Super Bowl snack

I know that I usually share crafting items on this site, but today I wanted to tell you about a snack that my husband always asks me to make for him on Super Bowl Sunday.  It is an appetizer that his friends named "Heart Attack on a Stick", but even with a name like that, they are devoured quickly!

Ingredients:
1 package of bacon
1 package of sausage (we like the maple brown sugar flavored)
brown sugar
toothpicks

Cut the bacon strips in half, and the sausage links in thirds.

Wrap the piece of bacon around the piece of sausage, and insert a toothpick to secure the entire thing.

Line them up in a glass pan.

If we are just having a small group of people over, I use a small square pan.  The nice thing is that you can wrap all of the sausage from the package, and what does not fit in the pan you can put in the freezer and use for a gathering later on.  For a large group, use a 9x13 pan, and you should be able to fill the entire thing with the one package of sausage.

Now, sprinkle brown sugar over the entire thing, and let it sit for a few hours.  I like to make this up in the afternoon, then I can let it sit and throw it in the oven when the game starts, and they are ready for half time.

Bake at 325 degrees for 45-60 minutes.  Once they are done, I remove mine from the baking pan and place them on a plate with paper towels on it.  This helps to soak up some of the grease.

ENJOY!

  1. Oh wowza! That really sounds delicious!

I wonder if you used turkey sausage if it would taste the same? Turkey products are a lot leaner, so it might not be so greasy, but might be dry. Looking forward to pictures!

  3. I have never tried them with turkey sausage, but I am guessing they would still be really good. They might need more brown sugar if the turkey is drier.

  4. These sound so good, but I couldn't eat them but the rest of the men in my family could. I will save these for a future time and day. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

  6. YUM! These look delicious! I use turkey a lot in place of beef and I bet it would work. They have turkey in the casing like this and turkey bacon. My guess is that you wouldn't cook it as long...but I'm not sure! Thanks for sharing.
