Daddy's Little Girl

Father's Day is coming up, so I thought I would share some scrapbook layouts that I did for a Memorial Scrapbook. I was introduced to a family with two young girls who had just lost their father to cancer. The mother wanted each of them to have a book with pictures of their father, but she knew that it would be too hard for her to do the task . . . it would be way too emotional for her.

This is one of the pages I created, and I think it really shows the joy and love between a father and a daughter, and I hope that every time the daughter looks at this she knows that even if her Dad is not still with her here on Earth, he is looking down on her with the same proud smile you see in these photos.

Top Ten

I just got my newsletter from Addicted to Rubber Stamps and it had this wonderful top ten list that I had to share with all of you.

Top Ten Reasons to Spend Time Crafting with your Kids
(or your grandkids or neighbors!)
  1. It lets you spend non-formal time with the kids. You don’t have to go anywhere, you don’t have to be “on good behavior”, you’re just relaxing and playing. It’s like game night with fewer rules.
  2. Your kids learn how to plan a project, see it through to the finish, and be proud of their achievements.
  3. Your kids learn that not everything has to be done exactly like everyone else. Creativity is a good thing!
  4. Your kids develop and enhance their own sense of style.
  5. Your kids learn that spending time with adults isn’t evil, stupid, or uncool. (Though this thought process is automatically reversed at age 13, no matter how great a parent you are. It’s a phase. You went through it too. Don’t roll your eyes at me – they’ll stay that way.)
  6. This might become “your tradition”, like decorating holiday cookies (only without the caloric consequences.)
  7. Crafting gets you and your kids engaged – with the projects, and with each other! Great for siblings to spend time with each other saying something besides “Will you stop touching me!!”
  8. You and your kids can see how creative and inventive you can be: reusing supplies, recycling materials, creating amazing art out of paper, thread, ink, sticks…whatever comes to hand.
  9. Save money and stress by making up activities at home (instead of going to the movies, the mall, theme parks, et cetera.) Minimal expenses, and no parking hassles!
  10. Unlike homework or chores, this is something they’ll want to do.

Life is so busy!

First off, I wanted to thank all of you that follow this blog.  It truly amazes me some days the number of people that come to this site to see what I am up to and what new crafts we are talking about.  I have a lot of big things coming up in the next few months, one of which could be of HUGE value to many of my crafter friends, but because of this I may not be able to blog as often as I usually do.  I hope that all of you will stay with me during this possible slow time.

This also opens up another chance for all of you . . . to be a guest blogger on Crafty Chics!  Do you have a crafting website or blog?  Then tell us about it!  Do you have a favorite crafting hobby, or just created a new item that is so cute you want to share it with everyone?  Then feel free to write up a little something about it, include a picture and links to any sites you have and you can be the Crafty Chics guest blogger.

If you are interested, you can contact me on Facebook or through http://www.retaggr.com/page/ShawnMosch
If you are on Facebook, send me a message instead of responding to the Crafty Chics wall just to be sure I see it right away.

LOVE these glasses!

I found these online and HAD to share them with you!

They are simple, but so beautiful!  I think that these would make a wonderful birthday or wedding gift.

The artist who makes these will even do them in your choice of colors.

My Mother's Day gift

On Mother's Day my family always says that I get to do whatever I want, and they know that means I will probably spend some time scrapbooking, so they were smart and got me two Cricut Cartridges for my gift.  I now have Sweet Treats and Paisley in my collection.

I love that both of them have a card function, so many of the images can be turned right into cards with one push of a button!  One that I noticed in the Sweet Treats cartridge cuts a ice cream cone shape plus it's mirror image, hinged on one side.  Fold on the hinge and you have an ice cream cone shaped card.  It is that easy!

And they both have so many great words and phrases too.  Since I do not have the Gypsy, if I want to create words and phrases I have to cut out all of the individual letters and line them up just right.  One of the phases in the Paisley cartridge is "Shop til you drop" . . . a phrase I say often!  Another one is "Sassy", and anyone that knows me knows I like that word too.

I can't wait to start sharing some of my creations with my new Cricut Cartridges with all of you.  If any of you already have these cartridges, and have links to your creations with them, please share them here.

Never leave the nest

With Mother's Day coming up I have started looking for crafters that feature items that could make good Mother's Day gifts.  I found these personalized rocks in a nest.  If you get with the name of each family member to give to Mom then she will never have an empty nest.

Mommy needs a NAP!

Here is a cute gift for any Mom or Mother-to-be (Mother's Day is right around the corner)
A comfy blanket all her own with a simple saying on it.  I know that MANY mothers have told their children "You need a nap because Mommy needs a nap."  Here is the blanket for just that occasion.
