Braille Love Necklace

I saw this necklace and thought it was so cool. I have seen things in the past with the Japanese characters for the words Love or Peace on them, but here is a new twist . . . the word LOVE in braille!

It can be purchased from Metal Pressions - just follow the link in the logo below.

Weather you are giving this gift to a person that has full vision or not, I think it is a very special way so show your love.

Kaleidoscope layout

Do you remember playing with kaleidoscopes when you were young?  I had one and I always loved the different shapes and patterned that would appear.  The first time I saw a kaleidoscope scrapbook layout I knew that it was something I had to try.

This is one that I did for the first page of my 2005 scrapbook.

After I knew which pictures I wanted to use I made sure I had two copies of the picture, and two mirror image copies. If you want to make a more complex kaleidoscope you can use 4 or 6 copies of the same image, just don't forget to get the name number of mirror image copies.

After I placed the pictures, I just started cutting shapes and filling in the space.  I tried to think back to the days of being a young child playing with a kaleidoscope and some of the patterns that it would create.

Big sisters and big brothers

When a new baby comes into the family, I think it is important to make sure that the older brother or sister feels important too.  When everyone is asking about the baby, wants to hold the baby and bringing gifts over for the baby, the other children in the family might feel left out.

That is why when I had a friend that had a baby I made an embroidered blanket for the baby and an embroidered shirt for the big sister.  Here are pictures of shirts I have done in the past . . . one for a big brother and one for a big sister.

Deer Crossing

I came across this photo today, entitled "Deer Crossing"

This is a beautiful picture of a simple subject, two deers in a field, but because of how the Photographer captured the image and titled it with play on the words of an everyday item, a road sign that many of have seen, it adds another dimension to the picture.

To see other work by this artist go to http://www.cactushuggers.com/ or their Etsy site

Guitar Hero scrapbook layout

A couple of years ago we gave my husband the game Guitar Hero for Christmas.  I had fun taking pictures of all of the family members taking a turn playing the game, and then creating this scrapbook layout.

I used a large border with black paper, and created the image of the neck of the guitar that you see on the game while you are playing.  Then I punched out circles in the colors of the dots on the game and placed those along the neck of the guitar.  I placed pictures of family members playing the game (in some of them you can see my old Christmas Tree Skirt, which I just recently blogged about replacing) In the very center I put the picture of my husband opening the gift on Christmas, surrounded by the colored dots and some stickers of  guitars and musical notes.

Getting organized

Do you hate it when you know you have already purchased an item you need for your craft project, but you just cannot find it?  Maybe it is time to organize the craft room before we dive into any new projects for the year.

Archiver's has a list of organizing ideas and products here http://www.archiversonline.com/articles/organization.html

Feel free to share your organizing tips and ideas also (either here at the blog or at our Facebook Fan Page)

About a year ago I purchased several small storage boxes that are supposed to be used for DVD's. I put labels on the front of them and use them to store stamps, paints, blank cards and the different memory cards for my embroidery machine. I think that I need to get some more to store my Cricut Cartridges in . . . I might organize them by font cartridges and image cartridges.

Another great way to store small items, like beads, buttons or pins, is in baby food jars. If you know of someone that has a baby, ask them to save a few jars for you. The jars come in different sizes too which is nice.

What is your best organization tip?

It's cold!

Maybe it is because it is so cold out, or maybe I am just going through a "creative block", but since I finished the Christmas Tree Skirt project I just have not felt very creative.  (maybe I am just tired from the holidays)

So, today let's look at something from another crafter.  Going along with the "cold" theme, I found a pillow with three snowmen on it here.

Whimsical and fun snowmen 'out and about' on a snowy night...

This 14in. X 18in. pillow is made from 100% charcoal wool fabric, front and back. Each of the whimsical snowmen have been hand pieced and applied with a blanket stitch.

The snowflakes that fill the night sky have been embellished with glass beads to give a hint of icey sparkle.

"Cold Characters" has been hand embroidered using a variety of stitches that include... Bullion stitch, Stem stitch, Spider web, French knots, Detached chain, Cast on Blossom and Heavy chain stitch.

The pillow edge is trimmed using a glass beaded blanket stitch.
