Patriotic theme

It's not a 4th of July layout, but it has a patriotic theme. Several years ago we took a trip to Philadelphia, and we went to see the historical sites around town.

4th of July

Since I have gotten so many complements on the Memorial Scrapbooks that I did a while back for two girls who lost their father to cancer, I thought I would share another page from one of those books.

It was pretty simple . . . I  just found a variety of papers with red, white and blue on them, and started cutting stars our in various sizes.  Once I had a LOT of stars, I just started layering them and scattering them around the page.  I ended up with extra stars, but I just put them all in a plastic baggie to save for future use.  I added a sticker border of red, white and blue frozen treats to the side.  Ironically, when the mother of this family saw this layout she was so happy to see those frozen treats on there . . . I guess they are a family favorite.

Let's go golfing

Here is a layout I did several years ago from a family trip we went on.  We enjoyed an afternoon game of mini-golf together as a family.

I used some letterhead from the resort that where we stayed on the top of the page and complemented it with some green and tan plaid paper.  Scatter a few golf related stickers around and you have a simple and easy layout.

Something from nothing

Do you ever have a random group of photos that you are just not sure how to make them work together?  Here is what I did.  I had several random pictures of my daughter doing things with her Dad, or that make her Dad laugh, so I put them together into a "Daddy's Little Girl" layout.

Cricut Circle

Some of you may have heard about the new Cricut Circle, which is a members only club that Cricut is starting.  With the membership you will get 4 exclusive cartridges, the first one being French Manor.  Personally, I was not too impressed with the French Manor cartridge.  There are fancy furniture pieces, that remind me of the History of Furniture class I took in college.  There are several flourishes, accents and embellishments that are similar to ones in other cartridges, and then some images related to Paris, France.

Back to the Cricut Circle . . .

The cost to join is $275, which is more than I can afford for some exclusive cartridges that I have not even seen and I am not sure I will even like.

Here are the benefits of the club

Cricut Lite Cartridge - Wildlife

The new Cricut Lite Cartridge Wildlife makes me think of hunting and fishing trips . . . not that I would be going on any of these, but I am sure that there are some of you out there that will find this helpful.  Even if you are not into hunting, it has a lot of wonderful animal images.

Cricut Lite - Splish Splash and Billionaire

It was officially announced this week that the new Cricut Lite Cartridges will be available only at Walmart, starting July 1 2010, although I have heard reports of some people spotting them at their local Walmart stores already.  I stopped by my local Walmart just the other day, and not only do they not have the Cricut Lite Cartridges, but their entire crafting department was just one aisle!  I found an employee and they told me that they got rid of all of their crafting items when they remodeled and they don't even carry Cricut products any more.  The manager suggested I go to a craft store.  (that doesn't help me with the Cricut Lite line)  I guess I will have to find another Walmart to stop into.

The new Cricut Lite Cartridge Billionaire is a new font cartridge which also includes a few images.  One of the images reminds me of the guy from the board game Monopoly.

The new Cricut Lite Splish Splash is for everything water . . . rain, bathtime, trips to the beach.  It has a beautiful dolphin and turtle, along with a few words.

Cricut Lite - Cherry Limeade and Bloom

The new Cricut Lite Cartridge Cherry Limeade is a new font cartridge, with a few summer fruits and beverages. In the picture below you can also see the new cartridge Bloom, which is filled with flowers, plants and things for the garden lover.

For Dad

Do you have some old photos that are special to your Dad?  Maybe one of him holding his first child, or teaching them to ride a bike, or of an old car he owned.  Why not take those pictures and turn them into black and white photos and frame them for him to display.  If you enlarged several of them and framed them it would be a beautiful piece of art that also had special meaning to Dad.

We are thinking of doing something like that with some pictures of a 1961 Buick Special that my husband used to own.  I found the photos on the computer, and then with my software I just changed them to black and white photos.  I suggest making a copy so that you still have the original.

Books on Scrapbooking

I guess I must order or at least look at a lot of scrapbooking items on Amazon because I got an email with some recommendations from them, and I had to pass them on to all of you also.

If any of you own any of these books, feel free to do a book review on it and I post it as a Guest Blog Spot. I will also include links to your blog or website.

Cricut Lite - video of several new cartridges

Enjoy the preview of a few of the new cartridges. I cannot wait for them to get all of the handbooks up on the website so that we can see them all. I heard that there is one called Feeling Groovy which is a new font, but it also has a few images . . . one of them being a peace sign . . . and my daughter LOVES peace signs.

Anyway . . . enjoy this preview!

Cricut Lite - Carousel

The new Cricut Lite cartridge Carousel is comes with images of the Big Top and all of the animals and show you see at the circus.  This would be great for a circus themed birthday.

New Cricut cartridges are coming!

I just found out today that Cricut will be coming out with several new cartridges very soon. One source that I found said that there will be about 24 new cartridges. (my list below has 23, so I may just be missing one)  As I find out information I will be sure to share it with you. The new line is called Cricut Lite, and they are very similar to the Solutions Cartridges in the fact that what you see on the box is what you get for images . . . do special features or bonus images. They will be selling for around $39.

Here is a preview of a couple.

Varsity Letter is a new font cartridge.  This one would be perfect for school sporting events, or a high school reunion.

I believe that Sugar and Spice has a Sock Monkey on it, which is actually something I have been looking for.

Some of the other cartridges that I will be sharing with you in the following days are

Varsity Letter
Sugar and Spice
Slumber Party
Celebrate with Flourish
Cherry Limeade
Feeling Groovy
B is for Boy
Live Simply
Splish Splash
Lovely Floral
Hoot 'n' Holler
Lacy Labels
Great Outdoors
Cupcake Wrappers
Handy Man
Block Party

So stay tuned!

I hope you liked the preview of Varsity Letter and Sugar and Spice.

Cricut Cartridge I want - Hannah Montana

I am going to guess that this post will surprise some people . . . I decided today that I want the Cricut Cartridge Disney Hannah Montana.  Let me tell you why.

I am working on a big project (more info on this to come later) which requires me to look at some Cricut cartridges that I did not think I wanted or needed, and now that I am looking at all of the images that they offer I am discovering that you cannot judge a book by it's cover, or a Cricut cartridge by the images listed on the back of the box.

The different options that you get with this cartridge for fonts are wonderful.  Here is a image of one page.

I love that one of the options allows you to make the letters look like they are on sheet music.
If you cut out an entire name like this and line them up, this is how it would look.

There are also some great guitar images.

After seeing these images, this cartridge moved from my "Don't Want" list to very high on my "Need it" list.  If you feel the same way after seeing this, I found it on Amazon . . . just click on the link below.

Are you in the circle?

The Cricut Circle that is.  It looks like there is going to be some sort of new group you can join through Cricut.  To see the page with the little bit of info they are teasing us with you can go here.  It does say that "Criclets" will get the new cartridge French Manor.  I am guess that a Criclet is someone who joins the group.  Now my question is what is the fee to sign up, and what benefits do we get for being a Criclet . . . and what is up with only making cartridges available for some people or with special offers or purchases?  You know what would be GREAT . . . if as a Criclet you had access to those cartridges that were only offered with a special purchase in the past.

Crafts with ties

Father's Day is coming up, and I know when I was a child that meant picking out a new tie for Dad for a gift.  But what can you do with all of those OLD ties?  Here are some creative ways to reuse those old ties.

A wreath for your door

 A purse/tote/bag

A lampshade

A toy snake

a wallet . . . this could also be done for a small book cover

And if Dad already has gotten rid of all of his old ties and you want to try one of these projects, you could look for ties at garage sales and thrift stores.
