Rubber Stamps

I have gotten into making cards for people recently.  (I know, I know . . . why did I wait this long)

I found this really cute rubber stamp that would be great for a baby shower or congratulations on the new baby card.

Raggedy Ann

One of the things I really love about having a embroidery machine is the fact that I can create really personal items for friends and family members. For example, once I found out that my sister-in-law was a big fan of Raggedy Ann as a child, I went out looking for a Raggedy Ann embroidery image.

Once I found the one in this picture, I put it on a shirt for her and I also got a comfy pajama pants and hoodie set for her. It made a perfect gift.

Machine Embroidery - Girl Scouts

As I was leaving work on Friday, a co-worker of mine who is a Troop Leader for a Girl Scout Troop asked me if I knew anyone who had a embroidery machine . . . I just smiled and raised my hand, to which she responded "I knew you were the right person to ask!"

She wants to get shirts for the girls in her troop, but if you have ever looked at buying embroidered shirts you know that they are not cheap! She was hoping she could find some images and then purchase plain shirts and have the image embroidered onto them.

I have done this before, so I told her I would do some searching online to see if I could find some good images. So if you have not guessed, this blog is also kind of a reminder for both her and I of what images I found and where I found them.

I found these at

I thought that these were cute because they show the girls doing all different activities, and if you do the uniforms in brown they are Brownies, but if you did them in green the girls could be Girl Scouts.  (sorry . . . I don't know the colors for Daisy Scouts, but you get the idea)

I found this one at

At Embroidery Designs they had quite a lot of different scouting designs, including images that say Super Scout that could be used for any scouting club.

The also have the image of the Scouts Honor hand symbol.

Or, if you are a troop that does a lot of camping, there are several fun Camping Buddy images for you to choose from.  (those came out really small . . . sorry.  To see the full sized ones click here.)  You can purchase the camping ones for $1.80 per image, or $17.97 for all of them.

Or how about one just for the love of Scouting

I hope that one of these will work for your Scouting Adventure!

Getting organized

I think it might be time to organize my craft room. I have gotten so many crafting tools, like all of my Cricut Cartridges, and I hate it when they are just sitting on the table in piles.

I went and got some photo storage boxes. They work GREAT for the Cricut Cartridges, and you can place them in the box so that you can see the spine of the Cricut box so that you know what cartridge it is. I put all of my Disney Cartridges in one box, and then my fonts in another and labeled the outside of the box. I also got different color boxes so that even if I don't read the label I know that Disney is in the pink box.

Here are some boxes in case you would like to do the same thing.

Beautiful Necklace

I love beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry. I think that they can take average clothes, like a sweater and jeans, and turn it into an outfit that people notice. And the best part is that even if you weight changes (and you cannot fit into your skinny jeans) your necklace and earrings will ALWAYS fit.

Here is a necklace that I found online that I really like.

It was created by a co-worker of mine.  She makes beautiful pieces, and has even done some special request pieces for me . . . like one time when I lost one of the earrings for a necklace/earring set . . . I brought the necklace in to her and she was able to create a new pair of earrings that go GREAT with the necklace.

You can see more of her work at her Etsy site.

Make and take weekend

It is a Make and Take weekend at Archiver's this weekend.  You will have the chance to make two cards using the newest techniques.  And the best part is that you get to take them home to use for inspiration on your other projects.

You could also choose to make a vintage inspired mini album.  Vintage is the hot new trend in scrapbooking and card making.

I want to introduce you to FancyBelle who is a crafter that I first came in contact with through Etsy.

She has many wonderful items, but the ones that first caught my eye were here Infant Car Seat Handle Cushions.  Any parent who has spent any lenght of time holding an infant in a car seat knows that those handles become uncomfortable to hold on to after a while.  That is what makes these handle cushions so great.

Plus they are so cute!  Once the child is older, you can take the cushion off of the carseat handle, and it is just the right size for a toddler sized travel pillow.

Besides Etsy, and her website you can also find her on  Facebook

My Valentine's Day card

This year I decided to make the Valentine's Day card that I am going to give to my husband.

I found this great paper with bright colored wavy stripes that I used for the background.  Then I cut a Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse Silhouette out of metallic purple paper with my Mickey and Friends Cricut Cartridge.  You can do this by just cutting out the Shadow feature of any image.  Then punched out hearts in two sizes from two different pink glitter papers and layered them, and placed them between Minnie and Mickey's hands.

Machine Embroidery - Flags

Since the Olympics have started, many people want to show their pride in their country.  Personalizing something with the flag of your country, or where your family came from, is a great way to do that.  Right now at Embroidery Designs, they are having a sale on their flag images.

Congradulations card

Here is another card that I made recently.  My sister-in-law just had her second child, and we wanted to send a gift, so I also made her a personalized card.

I had some paper that had various animals on it that I had used for a baby shower layout in the past.  Since this baby was a boy, I accented with some baby blue glitter paper on the bottom edge.  Then I cut the "Congrats" with my Simply Sweet Cricut Cartridge, first in blue glitter paper and then with the shadow effect out of green glitter paper.

More on the Cricut for cake decorating

Yesterday I posted a blog about the new Cricut for cake decorating, and I was surprised to get a comment from a reader who said her mother played a part in the creation of this new machine. So I went and found a video of all of the wonderful cakes that Linda McClure has made with this great new machine.

You can also go to and to see even more of Linda's creations.

Cricut Cake Decorating Machine

I am not even very into cake decorating, but when I heard about this new product I thought that it was so great that I had to share it with all of you!

Crircut has come out with a new Cricut Cake Machine.  In the same way that the original Cricut makes cutting professional looking letters and images for your scrapbooking and card making crafts, the Cricut Cake does the same thing for cake and cookie decorating.  The images are cut out of gum paste, and then can be easily attached to your cake or cookies.  Images can be cut in a variety of sizes to custom fit the item you are placing them on.

Here is a video that demos how it all works

This could bring your cakes and cookies to a whole new level!

Easy Gift Cards

I have a lot of small scraps of fabric in two small bins that is left over from a Brownie/Girl Scout project that I helped my daughter's troop do a couple of years ago.

I have been trying to think of ways to use up these small, pre-cut pieces of fabric. They are about 2 inch squares.

I hate to throw them away, but they are too small for me to do a sewing project with, so they have just been sitting for a long time.  The other day I had the idea to use them inside of a card . . . and here is how it turned out.

I used the "Tab" image from my Cricut Sampler Cartridge.  The book says that this image is from the Fabulous Finds Cartridge.

First I cut the Tab with the heart cut out in it from a pale purple paper.  Then I attached one of the scraps of fabric that I had to the back side of this so that the fabric showed through the heart cut out.  Then I cut the Shadow cut for the same tab out of a blue paper, and attached that to the back, so that the fabric is sandwiched in-between the two pieces of paper.

Once you fold it on the center crease the inside is blank, which gives you a place to write your greeting or the To/From information.  Then all you have to do is use some ribbon to feed through the holes to tie the card to the package.

I made some in different sizes by adjusting the cut size on my Cricut.  I could make several of these to just have on hand in case I need a quick gift tag.

Scrapbooking - what year is it?

I spent a lot of time last year working on two memorial scrapbooks for two young girls (5 and 1 at the time) who lost their father to cancer.  Because I was working on their books, I did not have any time to work on my own books.  Well, I just pulled out the book that I am in the middle of . . . I am at the 4th of July 2008!  And to think, when I last worked on this book I was only a matter of months behind . . . now I am 19 months behind.

It is so strange to look at that book, still unfinished, and see pictures of my first niece at her first birthday, when we were just at her 3rd birthday party.  Or the pictures in the stack that need to get cropped and put into the book of my second niece just after she was born . . . and she has already had her first birthday.  Or the pictures of the ex-girlfriends (my son's and my brother-in-law's)  These people are no longer in our life, and I have not even got around to putting them into the book about our life!

So, what year is it in your scrapbook?

I never used to be very into making cards, but recently I have found that I am making them more often.

Here is one that I recently made for a co-worker's birthday

I used some embellished paper that was a part of a glitter paper pack I purchased.  Then I simply added the word "Enjoy" from my Jubilee Celebration Cricut Cartridge, first from a bright teal paper, and then in a shadow cut with a deep brown paper.

Valentine's day decorations

Back at Christmas time I shared some wall decorations that I made with my Cricut.  I got such a great response from everyone about them that I have decided that this year I am going to make some for other holidays.  I just got done with my new Valentine's Day ones.

For the first one I used a paper with a rose print for the background. Then I cut the I love you image from the George and Basic shapes Cricut cartridge. I did the first cut in a deep plum, and the shadow cut in a white glitter paper.

For this one I used black and cream striped paper cut to size to create a grid pattern for the background. Then I cut the heart image from the George and Basic shapes Cricut cartridge. I did the first cut in the same rose paper that I used for the background of the other layout, and the shadow cut in a metallic purple paper.
